Routine medical clearance from your primary care doctor and standard laboratory tests are required. It is also necessary for you to avoid certain medications, aspirin, herbal remedies and alcohol for 14 days prior to surgery.
There are four basic approaches for browlift:
The most important factor to consider when selecting the approach is the position and characteristics of your hairline. The coronal and endoscopic approaches tend to raise the hairline while the high forehead approach lowers it. Dr. To will help guide you through the advantages and disadvantages of each approach during your consultation.
Browlift surgery can be completed with local anesthetic or under general anesthesia. Your safety and comfort is our primary consideration, so be sure to discuss this issue with Dr. To.
You should experience very little discomfort during or after surgery. Medication is prescribed; however, you may require nothing more than Tylenol for the majority of the post-operative period.
Coronal and high forehead browlifts are some of the longer lasting facial cosmetic procedures. Many patients are pleased with the appearance of their brows even many years after surgery. While the results obtained with direct and endoscopic browlift are similar, they may not be as long lasting.
After surgery a small drain tube may be placed to drain away fluids that otherwise might accumulate. A bulky head dressing may also be placed to decrease swelling. Many patients choose to go home that afternoon. Rarely are they observed at a recovery facility overnight.
If you have drains or bulky head dressing, they are removed the following day. Your sutures are removed 3-5 days after surgery and cosmetic tape is applied at that time. Discomfort is usually minimal and most of our patients return to work a few days after surgery.
The effect of the browlift is limited to your brows and forehead only. Sagging cheeks, jowls and facial wrinkles will not be corrected with a browlift. The browlift is not intended to correct minor asymmetries of the brows.
Chemical peels, laser, high intensity ultrasound (Ultherapy™) or radiofrequency treatments may be used to reinforce or substitute for surgical lifting. However, the degree of lifting achievable with these methods is significantly less than a surgical option. Botox® Cosmetic may be used to reduce the action of certain muscles to provide a slight elevation of the brows and to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. However, these are temporary treatments that will require repeated treatment every several months.
